The American P-51 Mustang entered service midway through WWII and became a hugely successful and recognizable fighter. Most were employed as bomber escorts in the European theater. The definitive and most widely produced version was the P-51D, powered by a Packard V-1650-3 supercharged 12-cylinder engine. This engine was Packard’s copy of the famous Rolls Royce Merlin engine. The Mustang’s main armament was six .50-caliber Browning machineguns, adequate for combating its main opponents, the Bf 109 and Fw 109, over European skies. In an effort to improve all-round visibility, the P-51D had also received a “teardrop” or “bubble” canopy.

Following close on the tail of Dragon’s earlier release of a 1/32 P-51D Mustang kit is an Early Production variant of this famous American fighter. The original kit was extremely well received, and this latest 1/32 scale model has a redesigned fuselage to allow modelers to accurately represent an Early model. As an Early Production aircraft, it does not have the tail fillet or dorsal fin where the fuselage and tail join, this modification being made to original aircraft to give better yaw stability. Of course, this aspect is carefully replicated in kit form. As before, this kit is highly detailed using state-of-the-art engineering and molding techniques. No effort has been spared in producing a kit brimming with detail, and that yet remains easy to assemble. This kit provides another Mustang version for modelers to add to their collections!
